ABOUT USCoreBrace commenced research and development of their Buckling-Restrained braces in February of 2001. In October of 2001, the first series of half scale BRB specimens were successfully tested per the AISC/SEAOC Recommended Provisions for Buckling Restrained Braced Frames (Provisions) at the University of Utah. From spring to fall of 2002, two more series of specimens were tested at the University of Utah for brace sizes ranging from 65 to 340 kips. All of these test specimens exceeded the Provisions by large margins. In the interim, COREBRACE LLC was established on June 5th of 2002.In October of 2002, COREBRACE tested the world’s largest BRBs at that time at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). These BRBs ranged in size form 350 kips to 900 kips. Again, all of these braces exceeded the requirements of the Provisions dramatically. Testing for an alternate design connection for the Intermountain Medical Center (IMC) was completed in October of 2004. These BRBs ranged in size from 160 to 800 kips. Corebrace overwhelmingly exceeded the Provisions again. Recently in November of 2004 Corebrace tested their largest BRBs ever (1100 kips) at UCSD. This testing was done to obtain California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning (OSHPD) approval to supply our BRBs for hospital projects. Again, this testing was exceedingly successful and Corebrace has now been approved for hospital projects by OSHPD. |
